A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction
Pride Aside is one Father’s attempt to be vocal about his
son’s addiction, and how their family has navigated this
perilous journey together.
“Raw, brutally transparent, real, heart-wrenching,
inspiring, relatable, frustrating, unsettling,
“A gift of unsettled but secure
promise to those who are struggling
along the broken road called life.”
Dr. Rob Futral, Senior Pastor
Broadmoor Baptist Church, Madison MS
What an incredible two months it has been since the book release. Joni and I have been blown away by the responses…so much so, that I have not had time to update this the way the I would like to. We have received so many encouraging and uplifting emails, calls, and notes from people all over, and can’t begin to tell you how special that has been. My appearance on the Rick and Bubba Show in early December introduced the book to several million households, on over 70 radio stations in 18 states, and as of yesterday we have over 1500 Facebook followers.
We were hoping Ben would be eligible for a 7 day pass from Teen Challenge of the Dakotas to be home for Christmas. At the last minute, it did not work out for Ben to come home, so we hopped in Bessee and headed to South Dakota. 2400 miles round trip! Bessee now has 325,000 miles on her and is still going strong.
Ben is doing well, but is really having trouble forgiving himself. He just can’t seem to forgive himself, and quite honestly can’t see how God can forgive him either. However, when we started telling him about the dozens and dozens of stories and emails we were getting from the book, it started to change his whole demeanor. He seems to feel a sense of hope knowing his story is helping others, and gives him the courage to fight another day. It seems like every note has included a reference to Genesis 50:20 ‘You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is being done now, the saving of many lives’.
Thank you all for sharing your story on here. We will begin posting some of the stories from those who indicated we could share publicly. Happy New Year.
